Sudama Ke Chawal | Vrat Ke Chawal | Janmashtami Special

Today we are sharing Fasting Rice Recipe named on Krishna's best friend Sudama. The recipe is Sudama Ke Chawal or Vrat Ke Chawal with step by step instructions.

Hello, my beautiful people! 😍
Lord Krishna and his friend's Sudama eternal friendship story is one of the beautiful stories of friendship and humbleness. Today's Janmashtami recipe is inspired by their friendship.
The recipe we are making today is Sudama Ke Chawal. Looks different right? Made up of Mordhan but not a regular Mordhan recipe. Sudama Ke Chawal is an easy fasting recipe. This Janmashtami, celebrate Krishna's birthday by making something special. Let's see how to make this recipe.

Sudama Ke Chawal Recipe

Ingredients -

  • 3 tbsp Oil
  • 2 tsp Cumin Seeds (Jeers)
  • 2 tsp Red Chilli Powder
  • Half Lemon Juice
  • Salt to taste (Sendha Namak or Rock Salt)
  • 1/4 cup Peanut
  • 10 Cashews (Kaju)
  • 10 Almonds (Badam)
  • 5-6 Dry Coconut Slices
  • 1 big Potato (Boiled & Chopped)
  • 2 Green Chilies (Chopped)
  • 1 cup Mordhan / Sama Ke Chawal (Vrat Ke Chawal)
  • 2 cup Water

Method -

Step 1. Wash and rinse the Mordhan 2-3 times to make sure there is no dirt left. Just like regular Chawal / Rice.
Step 2. Soak the Mordhan in enough water and leave it overnight. Leaving overnight helps the mordhan's cooking process fast.

Step 3. In the 1st Pan, heat the oil.
Step 4. Add Peanuts, Cashews, and Almonds. Saute these for 2 minutes.
Step 5. Add Dry Coconut Slices and saute for one more minute, till all the dry fruits change the color.
Step 6. Remove all the Peanuts, Almonds, Cashews, and Coconut Slices from the Oil.

Step 7. In the same Pan (Oil), add Cumin Seeds and chopped Green Chilies, saute for a minute.
Step 8. Add boiled chopped Potatoes, 1 tsp Red Chili Powder and little Sendha Namak (salt).
Step 9. Give it a good mix and cook for 5 minutes.

Step 10. Meanwhile, in 2nd Pan, add 1 cup Soaked Mordhan and 2 cups Water.
Step 11. Cook it for 6 to 8 minutes on medium heat. You can cover the Pan with the Lid, this will cook faster, just keep eye on your Mordhan.
Step 12. Once the Mordhan is cooked, transfer it to the 1st Pan.

Step 13. In the 1st Pan, after 5 minutes of cooking Potatoes, add cooked Mordhan. Give it a good mix.
Step 14. In the same mixture, add Peanuts, Cashews, Almonds, Coconut Slices, 1 tsp Red Chilli Powder, Lemon Juice, and more Sendha Namak.
Step 15. Give everything a good mix and cook for 2-3 minutes more.
That's it! Your Sudama Ke Chawal is ready to serve.

Tips -
1. It tastes so good with Curd or with Vrat ka Raita.
2. If you like to eat Coriander then add the chopped coriander too. I don't like it, that's why not adding here.
